Chapter 6
Chapter 6
"...What did you say?"
"Get back here right now!"
Alpha Damien felt the world spinning around him, his back instantly soaked with cold sweat.
He rushed downstairs, grabbed his car keys, and slammed the door shut.
He kept trying to call on the way, but couldn't get through.
I had blocked all contact methods.
On the way back to the pack house, Alpha Damien's speed kept climbing higher, his knuckles turning white from gripping the steering wheel so hard.
What did they mean by miscarriage? What did they mean by almost dying in the healing ward?!
He thought he could just coax me tomorrow and everything would be fine.
But he never expected that I would lose the pup because of what happened during the day.
And now I wouldn't even acknowledge him, blocking all his contact methods.
"How could this happen!" Alpha Damien muttered.
He couldn't help but remember how I used to stick to him like a little sun, passionate, reckless, and devoted.
Years ago, after he had a huge fight with Clarissa and broke up completely, he sat at his doorstep drinking in despair. It was me who crouched down to hold an umbrella for him.
When he woke up from his hangover, I was curled up on the sofa cooking venison stew, waiting for him to wake up. I smiled like a fool and said, "Don't be sad anymore, Damien."
Looking at my silly smile, Alpha Damien felt something indescribable. In a moment of impulse, he said, "Should we try being together?"
Actually, he regretted it right after saying it, but he didn't expect me to agree so quickly.
Alpha Damien thought, well, it wouldn't be bad to just go along with it.
Since Clarissa didn't want him anyway, it didn't matter who he was with. When the time came, he'd just mark a mate and have pups.
For three years, I cooked for him, took the pressure from his parents about marking, and even stood quietly behind him in front of others, never asking for recognition.
When he was tired of pack meetings, I would make moonlight herb tea for him late at night. When he returned from territory visits, I was always the first to appear at the pack borders.
Once when his wolf was restless from overwork, I stayed by his side for three whole days and nights, brewing healing herbs and feeding them to him spoon by spoon.
And what about him?
Alpha Damien suddenly hit the brakes, the sharp sound cutting through the air.
He was covered in cold sweat.
He remembered that when he found out I was pregnant, he was actually delighted.
He blamed me for not being careful, but secretly smiled at the healer's spiritual scans in the bathroom.
He imagined that after the pup was born, they would smile foolishly like me and softly call him daddy.
When he proposed marking me, he was sincere. He truly wanted to spend his whole life with me.
But he didn't expect Clarissa to come back.
She was his obsession, like a white moonlight in his heart.
These three years had actually started to fade his feelings for Clarissa, but when they met again and he saw Clarissa actively seducing him, he still couldn't control himself and fell back in.
But he never thought about marking Clarissa. He couldn't even imagine what it would be like if Clarissa became the Blackmoon Pack's Luna.
But I was different.
In his heart, I was already firmly tied to the word "mate."
He took it for granted that I wouldn't leave, just like I had never left in the past three years.
When the car pulled into the pack house, it was already getting dark. The lights at the entrance were on, like a silent judgment.
Former Alpha Alaric sat on the sofa with a cold face, while Matriarch Isolde's face was ashen, gripping her phone tightly.
On the coffee table sat a black long box, placed quietly in the center, like a coffin.
"You still have the nerve to come back!" Matriarch Isolde slapped him hard across the face.
"Mother, what are you..." Alpha Damien instinctively dodged, but she grabbed his shoulder and pushed him to the ground. "Kneel down!"
He looked shocked. "What happened?"
Matriarch Isolde's hands trembling, opened the box lid.
In an instant, the world seemed to lose all color.
Inside was a healer's spiritual scan.
And a small urn containing the ashes of an unborn pup, lying quietly.
