Chapter 6

Julian was shaking so hard he couldn't close his mouth. His lips moved. No sound.

Harold's phone buzzed. He glanced down and the blood drained from his face.

"Eve. Please. Stop them. Call whoever you need to call."

"Harrington stock is in free fall. Another twenty minutes of this and the company's gone."

I smoothed my ruined gown with detached patience. There was nothing personal left in my eyes.

"I said it already. I put the Harringtons on top. I can put them back in the gutter."

Harold slapped Julian across the face without even looking.

"On your knees. Now. Apologize. Unless you want to watch the family die in real time."

Julian finally snapped out of it. He'd grasped the arithmetic: the woman who tied the knot has to untie it.

He turned, and drove his foot straight into Chloe's face.

"This is all your fault. You manipulated me. You made me do this to my wife."

"Somebody hold her. Make her keep her promise. Raw meat, on all fours. Now."
