Natasha arrived at six.

Elliot retreated to the kitchen. He asked me to keep her company.

"I had no idea you were so pretty, Vivian." She took her coffee and tilted her head, smiling at me.

I smiled back. "Is that such a surprise?"

She paused, almost imperceptibly. "It must be exhausting, though."

She glanced toward the kitchen. "Do you know why I agreed to come over tonight?"

She looked back at me. "Because someone told me there's been a woman asking questions about me at my building."

My heart lurched.

She leaned in slightly and lowered her voice. "I'm here to warn you."

I went very still.
