Chapter 20
Chapter 20
Julian kept his icy composure. "I'm Julian Sterling. I'd suggest you think very carefully about what you're doing."
The officer had zero patience for entitled rich kids pulling rank. He played them the security footage of their rampage through the Ashford estate. "And where exactly is your evidence?"
Julian immediately produced the photo, a note of urgency breaking through his calm. "This is my sister. If you can just get her out of that house, I'll make it worth your while."
Ethan spoke up as well. "You know the Holloway name? Our families' engagement was public knowledge. I'll cooperate — but my fiancée has to leave with us."
The officer barely glanced at the photo. "Words aren't evidence. And a single photograph doesn't prove anything. What we do have on camera, however, is the two of you vandalizing private property. You're coming with us."
Before they could argue further, they were escorted out. Back at the manor, Dominic told Claire what had happened.
Claire had braced herself for this. She was surprised, but seeing the tension in his jaw, she couldn't help but smile. "I knew they'd show up eventually. You don't have to worry so much. They can't hurt me anymore."
The calm acceptance in her eyes made Dominic's heart ache. He reached over and affectionately ruffled her hair. "Don't worry about a thing. I've got you."
If Claire didn't want to see them, then he would make sure they never came near her again.
They were back in New York for a reason, and he intended to make every last person who had wronged her pay.
Soon after, Dominic arranged for his cousin Sophie — who was also expecting — to take Claire to the hot springs. "These springs are specially designed for expectant mothers. They'll be good for both of you."
Claire smiled softly. "Sounds lovely."
Dominic kissed her forehead. "Good girl."
Sophie rolled her eyes. "I'm standing right here, you two. At least pretend to remember I exist."
Only after watching them settle into easy conversation did Dominic leave. Lately, Julian and Ethan had been released and were causing trouble at every turn.
Dominic wasn't concerned — not for himself. But he refused to let any of it touch Claire, so for the time being he'd moved them to the family's countryside estate.
What he hadn't expected was for them to track him all the way to a business gala. Ethan had completely lost his mind, pouring an absurd amount of money into buying up shares just to steal Dominic's latest project.
Dominic remained perfectly composed. "As far as I know, Mr. Holloway, you haven't actually inherited Holloway Industries. I'm not sure you're in any position to be discussing partnerships."
Ethan's face twisted with barely suppressed fury. After two years of self-destruction, Harold wouldn't dream of handing him the reins.
Before Ethan could fire back, Julian stepped forward. "Ethan may not have the authority, but I've inherited Sterling Corporation. Am I qualified enough for you?"
Nathan Kingsley raised an eyebrow, looking faintly amused. He glanced at Dominic, rubbed his nose, and let out an awkward laugh. "Well, of course you're qualified. The question is whether you can afford to play."
Julian shot a cold look at Dominic. "Whatever he's offering, I can match it."
Nathan winced apologetically. "The thing is, I've already signed an agreement with Mr. Ashford. Maybe next time?"
Julian's expression didn't change. "I'll triple whatever the Ashfords are paying. Just sign with me."
