Chapter 8
Chapter 8
Kael's voice trembled violently,
"You're saying Elena only had one kidney to begin with?"
Healer Mara corrected his understanding,
"Miss Elena must have donated a kidney to someone years ago, which is why she only had one remaining. By the time we discovered this during surgery, she had already died from the Wolfsbane poisoning. To prevent her death from being completely meaningless and wasting a viable organ, we proceeded with the transplant extraction."
Healer Mara's face twisted with grievance as she continued,
"When I tried to report this to you initially, none of you would listen. You all followed the other patient and specifically ordered that no one disturb you. We had no choice but to place Miss Elena's body in the morgue temporarily."
After hearing Healer Mara's explanation, Kael's legs gave out completely. He collapsed to the floor, muttering hoarsely,
"Elena only had one kidney left, and I forced her to donate it... I killed her with my own hands..."
Suddenly something clicked in his mind. He jerked his head up sharply,
"Who did she donate her other kidney to before?"
When no one answered, Kael summoned his Beta and commanded,
"Investigate immediately! I want to know everything about Arthur's kidney transplant five years ago. Find out who the real donor was!"
Within a single night, his Beta had uncovered the complete truth.
Kael stared at the mountain of evidence his Beta presented, his jaw clenching so hard his teeth nearly cracked.
He returned to the morgue and caressed my cold face, his voice breaking,
"I should have known. You were so pure and kind—how could you have done those terrible things they accused you of? It's my fault. I believed their lies instead of trusting you. But I promise you, I will get justice for you. I won't let Chloe get away with this!"
I floated above him in the air, my emotions tangled and complex.
Five years ago, no one had believed I was the one who donated a kidney to Father. I'd assumed this secret would die with me, buried forever.
I never expected Kael would be the one to finally uncover the truth.
But now the question remained—when Mom and Dad learned the truth, would they still protect Chloe the way they always had?
When Kael arrived at Chloe's hospital room with his evidence and witnesses, Mom was carefully spooning soup into Chloe's mouth.
Dad stood beside them with a tender expression. The moment he saw Kael burst in with a group of pack warriors, his brow furrowed deeply. He barked out a reprimand,
"Kael! What's the meaning of bringing all these wolves in here? Chloe just had major surgery—she needs rest and quiet! All of you, get out!"
He moved forward to physically push them out, but Kael stood his ground like a stone wall. His eyes burned into Arthur's face as he demanded,
"Have you forgotten you have another daughter?"
Mom and Dad both froze, as if only now remembering my existence. Dad's face twitched uncomfortably as he looked away,
"What about her? So she lost one kidney—what's the big deal? Her constitution is far stronger than Chloe's. She'll be fine."
Mom chimed in defensively,
"Chloe's body has always been fragile. We need to focus our attention on her recovery first. Elena is mature now—I'm sure she understands our position."
Watching their callous attitudes, Kael let out a bitter, hollow laugh,
"No wonder Elena suffered so much. With parents as biased as you two, it's a miracle she survived this long. You're both daughters, yet you worship Chloe like a goddess while grinding Elena into the dirt beneath your feet. You don't deserve to call yourselves her parents!"
Mom's face flushed with anger. She shot to her feet, pointing an accusing finger at Kael as she snarled,
"We're biased? You have no idea what Elena has done! Five years ago, she nearly killed her own father and tried to frame her innocent sister! A daughter with such vicious character—we were merciful just to take her back into this family! We simply chose to give more attention to the victim, Chloe. How does that make us unfit parents?"
Kael didn't back down. He locked eyes with Vivian, his words dropping like stones,
"Why are you so certain that everything Elena told you was a lie? Did you ever actually investigate her claims? Or did you just assume your precious Chloe could do no wrong?"
