Chapter 3
Chapter 3
I lay in the hospital bed, unable to sleep. I stared at the ceiling as tears slid silently down my temples.
Late that night, I saw Natalie post on Instagram.
Haven't had a handsome man walk me home in ages. Happy. ☺
The next morning, when Sophie was handling my discharge paperwork, Jason finally showed up.
I lay there, numb, unable to look at him.
"Leave."
He didn't say anything. He moved to lift me onto the wheelchair.
I shoved him away.
"You weren't there when I needed you most. What are you doing here now?"
He frowned.
"Everyone from class was there. I didn't want to seem too familiar and raise suspicions."
"And Sophie was with you the whole time. It wasn't a good moment for me to step in."
I stared at him. Tears slid down my face.
"Jason — how invisible do I have to be? You'd rather leave me there alone than admit I exist."
He took a slow breath.
"It was sudden. I wasn't prepared."
I let out a bitter laugh.
"You don't have to prepare anymore."
I shoved him away and dropped myself into the wheelchair.
He stood there and let out a short, humorless laugh.
"Fine. Every girl chasing me is better than you."
"And you — if you leave me, good luck finding anyone else."
Then he turned and walked out of my life completely.
