Chapter 2
Chapter 2
I turned away. "You shower. I'll get you some clothes to change into."
I hurried to the closet and grabbed a set of Dorian's pajamas. When I came back, Cain was still standing at the bathroom door, his fingers fumbling uselessly with the buttons.
Catching my confused look, Cain bowed his head. "I… after losing my sight, my coordination went wrong. The doctor said it's sensory processing disorder."
As he spoke, he shuddered. His lips lost their color and went pale.
I didn't stop to think. I put the clothes down and ran over. "It's fine. Let me help."
Cain was cooperative. He stood still while I undid his buttons one by one. My fingers accidentally grazed his cold skin. He trembled slightly, and his ears went red. He grabbed my hand and said quietly, "I — I'll do it myself."
I came to my senses and was about to pull away when an angry shout came from outside the door. "Ivy, what are you doing?!"
I looked back. Dorian stood in the doorway. His shoulder was half soaked. I couldn't help frowning. "When did you get back?"
"Should I wait for you to put a mark on some other wolf's neck before I show up?" Dorian was livid.
I just thought he was being unreasonable. "Dorian, watch your mouth. Cain is an old friend. There's nothing between us."
"Nothing? I saw you undressing him with my own eyes. How is that nothing?"
"Will you just let me finish —" I was about to snap back when Cain took my hand. "Ivy, it's all my fault. Don't fight because of me."
Then he bowed to Dorian. "I'm sorry for the misunderstanding. My health hasn't been good. She was just helping me. I only came to see Ivy for a moment. I've seen her now. I'll leave and stop bothering you both." His voice was shaking the whole time.
I couldn't stand it. I grabbed his hand and said, "Cain, forget him. Stay here for a few days. I'll take care of you."
"Are you out of your mind, Ivy? Who brings another man into their home to nurse him back to health?"
Dorian's words were barely out when a soft voice came from behind him. "Dorian, are you fighting with Ivy because of me again?"
Dorian's expression froze. He couldn't get a word out. When he didn't answer, Serena stepped forward. She spotted Cain and paused. But the next second her eyes went red, and she looked at me with something close to pleading. "It's all my fault, Ivy. I shouldn't have said I'd never seen the ocean. Then Dorian wouldn't have left you behind and taken me to the Maldives."
"It's a good thing the heavy rain grounded the flights tonight. Let Dorian stay with you. I'll leave now."
Dorian's face immediately filled with concern. "Serena, you don't need to leave. This is your home. Stay as long as you want."
Any other time, I would've gone after Dorian — half this house is mine, who gave you the right to make that call? But right now, I nodded in agreement. "That's right. You too, Cain. This is your home too. Stay as long as you like. Don't mind anyone else."
Dorian stared at me in disbelief. "Ivy, are you calling me 'anyone'? Have you forgotten that I'm your mate?"
Before I could react, Serena pressed a hand to her chest and whispered, "Dorian, I'm in pain."
Dorian forgot everything instantly. He wrapped his arms around Serena and took her back to the room.
I breathed a small sigh of relief and quickly ushered Cain off to shower. Then I pulled out Dorian's most expensive set of silk sheets and made up the guest room.
Once everything was settled, I went back and waited outside the bathroom door. Cain had sensory processing disorder. I was worried he might have trouble.
While I waited, Dorian came downstairs to get Serena's medication and gave a cold laugh when he saw me. "Ivy, there's no point making yourself his servant just to get back at me."
I was about to tell him exactly where he could put that opinion when I heard the bathroom door open.
Dorian's eyes went wide in disbelief, his voice jumping up. "Ivy, you put my pajamas on that man?"
Cain had just finished his shower and was immediately at a loss. He pressed his lips together. "Ivy, I didn't know these were Dorian's. I'll go change right now."
I grabbed his arm. "Don't bother. Your clothes are soaked through. Wear these." I turned around and snapped at Dorian. "Can you not be so petty? It's just a set of clothes."
Dorian's chest heaved. "This isn't about the clothes, Ivy. Do you still remember who the Alpha of this house is?"
Just then, Serena came out of the room. "Dorian, what's going on? Why is it taking you so long to get the medicine?" She was wearing the couple's matching pajamas Dorian and I had bought together, the bracelet Dorian had given me for my birthday, and the hair clip I'd bought just last week.
Dorian went unusually quiet.
