Chapter 1
Chapter 1
"Matthew! I'm begging you to save Asher! He's your own son!"
A mocking laugh came from the other end of the phone.
"You're just a rogue omega, who knows how many male wolves have fucked you, who knows if he's my pup."
I could hear Cassandra's pup crying in the background. "Alpha Matthew, come quick and look. The pup is crying."
The call ended abruptly.
I couldn't help but laugh at my own foolishness.
Ever since I gave birth, Cassandra had been pushing Matthew to confine me to the packhouse.
Several warriors took turns watching me. I wasn't allowed to leave this territory.
I had no choice but to kneel before the warrior.
"Please let me take him to see the pack healer. I promise I won't run away. Whatever he's paying you, I'll pay you double!"
The warrior looked troubled.
Seeing the little pup struggling in my arms, his heart softened.
"Fine. Just this once."
With permission, I stumbled out the door.
There was a pack clinic not far ahead. It would take five minutes at most to run there. Mind-linking the healer couldn't be that fast.
But before I even reached the packhouse gate, I ran straight into Matthew coming back.
He flew into a rage. He grabbed my hair and dragged me back to the packhouse.
"Rogue omegas really are something else. Even a warrior who's worked for me for two years will bend the rules for you. Your methods are getting better and better."
I held my whimpering pup in my arms. Tears welled up in my eyes.
"Matthew, please look at our pup! He's dying!"
The pup in my arms seemed to know his father had returned. He reached out to grab Matthew's shirt.
Matthew coldly pushed away the tiny arm. "Look how strong he is. What's all this talk about dying? Stop trying to fool me."
He didn't even glance at our pup. "What could be wrong? It's just an egg. You feed him every day and nothing happens. I'm just grabbing something and leaving. Don't bother me anymore."
He rushed upstairs, grabbed a ceremonial pup cap for Cassandra's child, and strode out the door. Before leaving, he warned the warrior, "If you let her leave again, you can forget about your position in this pack!"
The warrior couldn't bear to watch my pup die right in front of him. Though Matthew had taken his phone, he used mine to call the pack healer.
I waited anxiously. Someone had cruelly shoved a whole cooked egg with its shell into my pup's mouth. What kind of heartless person could be so vicious?
I watched my pup's body slowly turn blue. I wanted to cry but could only whimper. II tried to break the egg and pull it out, but I was afraid the pup might inhale the shell fragments.
The packhouse door was locked tight from the outside. I pounded on it desperately, but there was no response.
