Chapter 5

Chapter 5

As soon as Matthew woke up, he asked about Olivia.

"Where is Olivia?"

Cassandra was beside him. "Sister was taken away by someone on a great eagle. From now on, I'll stay with you, Matthew."

Matthew seemed to suddenly understand something. He gripped Cassandra's hand tightly. "Did you also think that pup was Asher? Is that why you told me to release Gravemaw?"

Cassandra looked nervous, but then remembered that all of the pup's belongings had been taken away by Olivia. She steadied herself and said, "How could that be? Matthew, that was clearly Luna's dark magic."

"It better be!"

Matthew felt empty inside. Was that pup really Asher? Olivia had said she would never leave him in this lifetime.

Looking at Cassandra lying in what should have been Olivia's place, Matthew felt inexplicably irritated. "Cassandra, you should go back to your own quarters."

Cassandra didn't expect Matthew to say this. She was stunned for a moment, then forced out an "okay" through gritted teeth.

Matthew looked at the empty space beside him. Olivia had always said that no matter how late he came home, she would wait for him.

Matthew opened the closet and found that what used to be full of clothes was now empty, leaving only his few scattered pieces.

Only then did Matthew realize he hadn't lived here for a long time.

After Asher was born, all her attention was on the pup. He felt neglected, and when Cassandra came back, he decided to teach Olivia a lesson.

At first, she still clung to him. The method seemed to work. But then he saw Olivia smiling at another Alpha - such a happy smile.

So he sent that Alpha Olivia's nursing photos to remind him that Olivia was his mate.

Matthew didn't believe Olivia would just leave like that. He frantically searched the room for her belongings.

But he only found Olivia's diary in the bedside table.

March 6, 2023: I'm pregnant. I went back to tell Matthew the good news. He was very happy.

April 6: I can hear the pup's heartbeat now. It's amazing.

...

Behind the diary entries were ultrasound photos.

It wasn't until Matthew found the paternity test that he understood how deeply his casual words had hurt Olivia.

Matthew looked at the paternity test showing 99% probability. He had never really doubted that Asher was his pup - those words were just said in anger.

Further back was Asher's growth diary. Since Matthew stopped paying attention to Asher, I took photos of Asher every month. I was afraid Matthew would regret it later, so I took one photo each month.

Matthew hadn't realized how much Asher had changed. Thinking of yesterday's monster with the egg in its mouth, he realized it looked very similar to Asher's last photo.

When Matthew reached the end, the photo was from Asher's first day of death. I had taken it with Ronan's phone. Asher had an egg in his mouth and his body was blue-purple.

To make sure Matthew would believe it, I specifically included the red cord and myself in the photo.

Day two: Asher's body slowly turned dark, showing death spots.

Day three: Asher's body was completely black, but there was still an egg in his mouth. Looking closer, there were even eggshells on the egg!

Matthew had clearly told the caretaker to feed Asher only egg yolk. How was this possible? He had even done research - pups should eat egg yolk first, then add egg white.

He couldn't believe this was Asher. How could it be? It seemed like Cassandra had been leading him by the nose all along...

Matthew called his Beta. "Investigate Cassandra for me! Why was there a whole egg in Asher's mouth? Investigate! And the caretaker who fed Asher before - investigate them all!"

Soon, the Beta called back. "The caretaker disappeared after feeding the young heir the egg. She was supposedly dismissed by Cassandra. We've found her trail. Should we bring them over?"
