Chapter 6
......
The next morning at nine-thirty, Kaelen finally came home.
Talia said, "Alpha, the Luna prepared an anniversary gift for you. It's in the safe in the study."
Kaelen was stunned. Today was actually their mating anniversary?
Every year, Elara would make a fuss about celebrating it, but he had never cared.
Thinking about how Elara looked during those days in the healing den, Kaelen felt a tightness in his chest. As if possessed, he went to the study.
Opening the safe, the first thing Kaelen saw was a notebook.
A wall of text flooded his vision:
"Kaelen, I've loved you for seven years. Back then, I was just the omega servant's daughter and felt I wasn't worthy of you. Later, I became the Vance family's daughter, but you didn't like me."
"When I was still the omega servant's daughter, Seraphina often bullied me. Every time I was punished to kneel, you would speak up for me. You always helped me at crucial moments. Gradually, I fell in love with you."
"After I returned to my identity as the Vance family's daughter, you seemed especially disgusted with me. You thought I had stolen Seraphina's identity. But those were my parents, my family. I was just coming home. Was that wrong?"
"I knew you liked Seraphina. I thought I had no chance, until she gave you up and you chose me. I thought if I put my heart into it, you would fall in love with me. But I was wrong..."
"So I set myself a goal. If you hurt me 99 times, I would leave you completely."
Kaelen's hands trembled as he suppressed the strange emotions in his heart and flipped through the notebook.
It was filled with all the ways he had hurt her over the years. By the 99th incident, Kaelen couldn't hold back anymore and his eyes reddened.
So she had always known. She was just playing along with his act, planning her departure every single day.
Under the notebook were three documents.
A bond rejection writ, a pack resignation letter, and a miscarriage record...
At this moment, Kaelen finally broke down. Tears streamed down his face.
He had signed both of those agreements himself?
And that miscarriage record - they had once shared a pup together?
A gentle breeze from the window fluttered the notebook pages, turning to the last page.
Elara's neat handwriting stared back at him:
"The 100th time - the pup is gone."
"It's time for me to leave too."
"Kaelen, let's never meet again."
